Brevity is the Soul of Wit

“Brevity is the soul of wit.”

The quote is from Hamlet. It’s ironic, because it’s from a speech by Polonius, who is anything BUT brief. (Polonius also points out that “limbs and outward flourishes” are “tediousness”.)

Is your writing brief?

Is it witty?

Is it tedious?

I strive for brevity, and I strive for wit, but often I fail and descend into flourishes and tediousness. But sometimes I’m brief and tedious at the same time. If you want to see me in action, being brief and sometimes tedious, you can visit my page on Twitter. I only get 140 characters to play with there, but sometimes even that’s too many.
